A Personal Note from the New Director

Let me take a moment and introduce my family and myself to the NC Conference.  My name is Jon Oliver.  I was born and raised in Attalla, Alabama (60 miles north of Birmingham).  I graduated from Emmanuel College in 1995, where I met my beautiful wife.  I have been happily married to Nicole Harless Oliver of Stedman, North Carolina, for over twelve years.  After graduation, I soon accepted the youth pastor position at Clinton Pentecostal Holiness Church in Clinton, NC.  I had the opportunity to serve there under Rev. David Wheeler.  Our first son, Coley, was born in November of 1997.

At the conclusion of 1997, I went to work for Mr. George Wilson at WCLN radio during a transition period in my life.  I worked there for a little over a year.  During that time, a door of opportunity was opened at Saint Paul Church in Greenville, NC.  Some of you may remember the passing of our daughter in April of 2001.  Saint Paul Church and all of our friends in the NC Conference embraced us during that difficult time.  A year later, our second son, Cade, was born.  For the past nine years, I have enjoyed serving Pastor Allen Mayo and Saint Paul Church.  They both have been extremely good to my family and for that, I will forever be grateful!

During my tenure at Saint Paul, I have served as the NC Conference Youth Pastor and been actively involved in the NC CEM.  When I accepted the position of NC CEM Director, I was a member of the CEM Board.  This past year, my wife and I enjoyed our time with the Primetimers in New York City.  We look forward to a great Primetimer’s Trip to Branson, Missouri this November!

I have been close friends with Charles and Laura Boyd for some time.  I think the world of the Boyds.  Charles did a phenomenal job as our Conference CEM Director!  Nicole and I wish them the very best as they follow the Lord’s leading in their new endeavor.

I am humbled by this opportunity that God has given me to serve in this capacity.  Nicole and I feel that this is God’s will for our lives.  We look forward to serving this Conference and each of you.  Colossians 3:17 says, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Our desire is to strive for excellence in every aspect of ministry.  My Mama taught me that if something is worth doing, it’s worth doing well.  I want to do all that I do well.
